Hello and welcome! This group was started by parents to provide a valuable need -- a place for kids with autism, asperger's, P.D.D. and/or sensory issues to meet and play while the parents join in, relax, or talk. Think of this group as one big playdate. If you've tried to find playmates or friends for your child, you'll know just how much this group is needed.
The group is going through a re-vamp phase -- we are publicizing the group because the word hasn't gotten out and turn-out was low. The need for this group is definite, so rest assured that turnout should be better for our December meet-up.
I (Blake) am the current Organizer of this group. I am a professional child and family therapist who works with kids on the spectrum. This group will not be a psychotherapy group but will continue to be a fun and casual self-help support group for parents.
I will be facilitating the meet-ups and will be there to help kids make connections, learn play skills, and have fun! I can also answer parents' questions if need be. However, I have a lot of respect for the wisdom and support that parents bring into this group. Feel free to write me with any questions.
